The Königlich Sächsische Finanzministerium, the Royal Saxon Finance Ministry, was built at the end of the 19th century on the Neustadt side of the Elbe.

The register describes a three-storey block building on a high base storey, with three inner courtyards. It says the plan follows a baroque scheme but the forms are in the manner of the Neo-Renaissance (Dresden school). On the Elbe side the central wing is marked out by a dome-shaped roof, a triangular gable with a tile painting and a colossal order of columns.

The register dates the ministry building to 1890–1896.

After the political change of 1990, architects were given the task of returning the ministry building to its original appearance and at the same time fitting it out for two administrative units, the finance and culture ministries. The Saxon culture ministry’s own page speaks of the reconstruction from 1993 to 1995.

It stands on the same bank as the Sächsische Staatskanzlei; see the Königsufer page.
