Dresden-Neustadt station

Dresden-Neustadt is a Deutsche Bahn station on Schlesischer Platz, built from 1898 to 1901 to replace the Schlesischer Bahnhof.

What it is

Deutsche Bahn names the station Dresden-Neustadt, and in English calls it “Dresden-Neustadt station”. The city's German pages use “Bahnhof Dresden-Neustadt” and “Bahnhof Neustadt”. Its pages on bahnhof.de are published by DB InfraGO AG, the Deutsche Bahn company that runs its stations.

History

The station was built from 1898 to 1901 to replace the Schlesischer Bahnhof (Silesian Station). It was part of the large-scale rebuilding of Dresden's railway network around 1900, the Dresdner Knoten.

The city says the station building and tracks were extensively reconstructed, partly to make them accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The building

The station is a large train shed with a long entrance building in front, whose central section is marked by a glass dome. Inside, the decoration is in the Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) style.

The station is a listed monument, together with the side walls of the railway bridge over Hansastraße, a relief by Theodor Kunz and the locomotive depot with its roundhouse.

Seeing it

Checked 11 October 2026 The city describes the station as serving rail traffic on the northern side of the Elbe, with connections to the S-Bahn, regional trains and city transport. ICE, EC and IC long-distance trains call at Dresden-Neustadt as well as at the Hauptbahnhof. The S-Bahn line S2 from Dresden Airport calls here. Check the operator's own page before you go.
