Schlossplatz

The Schlossplatz, which the heritage office writes Schloßplatz, is a square in Dresden's old town, protected as a cultural monument for its paving and features such as the bollards around the Hofkirche.

What it is

The Hofkirche, today the Cathedral of St. Trinitatis, stands at Schloßplatz 2. The Georgentor of the Residenzschloss turns its front of 1899–1901 to the square.

History

The square in its present form dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Ständehaus at Schloßplatz 1 was built from 1901 to 1907 by Paul Wallot as a parliament building, and it served as the Saxon Landtag's building until 1933.

Around the square

The Great Staircase from the Schloßplatz up to Brühl's Terrace dates from 1814. The Fürstenzug mural is on the outside wall of the Stallhof at the Schlossplatz.
