Terrassenufer

The Terrassenufer is a riverside address on the Altstadt side of the Elbe in Dresden, where the state heritage register lists a shipping building with a bridge-keeper’s house, the Moritz monument and passenger steamers, and where the Neue Synagoge stands.

At Terrassenufer 1 the register lists a shipping building and bridge-keeper’s house (Schifffahrtsgebäude, Brückenwärterhaus). It dates the bridge-keeper’s house to the first half of the 19th century. It describes the building as part of the Altstadt view of the Elbe and of town-planning significance.

The register also gives the address Terrassenufer to the passenger steamer Dresden, which it lists with its steam engine; the paddle steamers have a page of their own.

The register lists the Moritz monument (Kurfürst-Moritz-Denkmal) at the Terrassenufer. It says that the monument there is a copy of an original that was put into storage in another place.

The city’s page on the history of the synagogue places the Neue Synagoge on the Terrassenufer; the Neue Synagoge has its own page.
