Taschenbergpalais
The Taschenbergpalais is a Baroque palace in Dresden's old town that Augustus the Strong had built as a city palace for his mistress, Anna Constantia, Countess of Cosel.
What it is
The palace is at Taschenberg 3. It is a complex of a main building, angled side wings and courtyards, mostly from the 18th century, and the entrance front is dominated by an ornamented central projection.
History
Augustus the Strong commissioned the palace in 1705, and it was built between 1706 and 1711. It was extended around 1850 in plainer forms.
It opened as the Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden on 31 March 1995. The Elbe flood of 2002 damaged the building, and its four basement floors and ground floor were renovated afterwards.
The passage to the Schloss
A passage links the palace to the Residenzschloss; there has been one since the 18th century.
